Unlocking a year of DevOps excellence: what you should know about the membership renewal

Our DataMiner DevOps Professional Program has recently celebrated its first birthday—hip, hip, hooray! This means that the program’s pioneers will shortly see their annual membership renewed for the first time, and with that, their current DevOps status will be secured for another year and their DevOps Points tally will reset.

Now let’s take this opportunity to dive deeper into the exciting prospect of securing your hard-earned DevOps status again upon next year’s membership renewal—or maybe even level up before that!

Your DevOps status is a valuable asset

Everyone who has dedicated themselves to the DataMiner DevOps Professional Program for over a year can now savor the fruits of their hard work and commitment. As your membership automatically renews (12 months after enrolment), you get to spend another full year enjoying your well-earned DevOps status and relishing in the associated benefits.

Your annual DevOps Points tally, on the other hand, will reset to zero. This gives you a clean slate to enhance your DevOps skills and to work toward securing your DevOps status again upon the next membership renewal.

DevOps Points ≠ Dojo Credits

DevOps Points are only used to define your DevOps status. Your Dojo Credits remain untouched and can be spent in our Swag Shop at any time. And hey, we’ve got some awesome swag waiting for you!

The DevOps membership renewal in a nutshell:

1. DevOps status. The DevOps Points you’ve collected throughout your first membership period will determine your DevOps status for the upcoming membership period. In other words, you will retain your current status and all of its benefits at least until your next membership renewal.

2. DevOps Points. Your annual DevOps Points tally will reset to zero. This way we encourage members to maintain momentum in demonstrating their skills and learnings, and ensure that our DevOps program consistently grows and improves, only boasting high-quality content.

3. Next membership renewal. If you’d like to keep your DevOps status upon next year’s membership renewal—or level up—you’ll have to collect enough points again. And so the cycle repeats itself.

Leveling up always happens immediately

While leveling down is only a risk if you fall short on points by next year’s renewal, leveling up will happen immediately once you reach the associated DevOps Points total needed for a certain level. So, be sure to chase those DevOps Points—it is a great attestation of your value as a creator.

What’s more, we’ll add even more exciting and fun opportunities to earn points. So, whatever level you achieved in your first year, your chances of reaching a higher will be even greater.

A practical example

Consider Andi Tamer’s situation:

  • Andi signed up for the DevOps Professional Program on April 12, 2023. This means he has until April 12, 2024, to reach the highest possible status level (i.e. a 12-month period).
  • By June 12th, 2023, Andi has earned 750 DevOps Points, qualifying him as an advocate.
  • By November 24th, 2023, he has earned 5000 DevOps Points, qualifying him as an enabler.
  • Upon reaching his first anniversary on April 12, 2024, Andi has earned a total of 7600 DevOps Points. His annual DevOps Points tally is reset to zero, but he retains his enabler level. To maintain this status, he will need to gather 5000 DevOps Points again before April 12, 2025.
  • By August 13th, 2024, Andi has already earned 750 DevOps Points again, ensuring his advocate status upon his next membership renewal. But, of course, he remains an enabler for the remainder of his current membership period (because that’s the highest status he reached in his previous membership period).
  • Upon reaching his second anniversary on April 12, 2025, Andi has earned a total of 4300 DevOps Points. This means he did not collect the required 5000 points to retain the enabler level within a 12-month period. Consequently, he is now demoted to the advocate level. To retain this level, he will need to collect 750 DevOps Points before April 12, 2026.
  • By June 5th, 2025, Andi has earned 750 DevOps Points again, ensuring his advocate status upon the next membership renewal.
  • By September 9th, 2025, he has earned 5000 DevOps Points and is immediately promoted to the enabler level.
  • Upon reaching his third anniversary on April 12, 2026, Andi has earned a total of 7500 DevOps Points and has reached the enabler level.

Way to go, Andi!
