Legacy NMS/OSS tools lack support on IPV6 from a southbound and northbound perspective. Is the DataMiner framework fully compatible with IPV6? When did this compatibility start ? Has Skyline recently upgraded a few of the connectors (drivers) to support IPV6 metrics? Is it possible to forward traps in DataMiner to IPV6 devices?
Hi Luiz,
DataMiner is fully IPv6 compliant. The OS we're running on has full IPv6 support and DataMiner allows you to specify not only IPv4 addresses, but also IPv6 addresses and DNS names as well.
Southbound, retrieving the data from the systems DataMiner manages, supports IPv6 for a very long time already, so every DataMiner version we support, can talk over IPv6 to those systems. Meaning that any driver we have in our catalog, can leverage IPv6 communication.
Northbound and eastbound, e.g. SNMP trap forwarding or ticketing integrations, also supports IPv6 for all our supported versions of DataMiner.
Also our solutions like IDP, support IPv6. And drivers like the Cisco Manager also collect IPv6 metrics and statistics from the equipment.
IPv6 is also actively being used in the field at various deployments and we are currently not aware of any missing feature to be fully IPv6 compliant in all the different aspects of a DataMiner system. If that would be the case, then we would immediately tackle this.
