Legacy Reporter and Dashboards retirement

Legacy Reporter and Dashboards retirement

With the release of DataMiner 10.4.0, you are met with both exciting advancements and necessary transitions. The time has come to bid farewell to the legacy Reporter and Dashboards modules, marking the end of their life cycle.

Sunsetting the legacy modules

With the launch of DataMiner version 10.4.0, the legacy Reporter and Dashboards modules have now entered the End-of-Life phase. This pivotal update entails that these modules will be deactivated by default following an upgrade. Consequently, any existing legacy reports, including those configured in Automation or Scheduler, will no longer be operational. The Reports & Dashboards will no longer be accessible from the Cube card navigation pane, and the web pages will cease to be hosted in IIS, marking the end of an era.

Embracing change with the new Dashboards app

The decision to retire the legacy modules stems from a strategic initiative to streamline and enhance the DataMiner experience. The torch is now passed to the new Dashboards app, inheriting and expanding upon the capabilities of its predecessors. This transition introduces a more robust and feature-rich environment for data visualization and analysis.

It's crucial to note that while the Dashboards app is a powerful successor, it doesn't serve as a direct replacement for the legacy modules. Users will need to recreate their reports and dashboards to fully leverage the new capabilities. While this transition may require some time and effort, the resulting gains in functionality and efficiency justify the investment.

A prerequisite upgrade check

To facilitate the transition, a prerequisite upgrade check has been introduced. This check ensures that any existing legacy reports or dashboards on the DataMiner Agent are identified. You are presented with two options: either delete these legacy artifacts or enable the LegacyReportsAndDashboards soft-launch option.

Enabling the LegacyReportsAndDashboards soft-launch option allows users to temporarily retain the functionality of the legacy Reporter and Dashboards. Even after the upgrade to 10.4.0, you can continue using these modules. However, it's essential to note that this is a temporary solution and will be completely phased out in a future version.

A glimpse into the future

The decision to retire legacy modules and introduce a more sophisticated successor aligns with the overarching goal of providing users with a cutting-edge and streamlined analytics experience. As technology evolves, so must the tools we use to make sense of the vast amounts of data at our fingertips.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the evolution of DataMiner's functionality is a testament to the commitment to providing users with the best possible tools for data analysis. While bidding farewell to the legacy Reporter and Dashboards may evoke a sense of nostalgia, embracing the new Dashboards app brings with it a world of possibilities. As we transition to 10.4.0 and beyond, it's essential to approach this evolution with a forward-looking perspective, ready to unlock the full potential of the latest advancements in data analytics.

Can we provide customers that have built all their reporting needs with the Legacy Reports with a Dashboard set of templates for an easy transition to the new DM Dashboards module? Is this something Skyline Development team can provide via Tech Support to customers with Active SLAs?

The Skyline development team plans to explore the integration of SLA data into the new DM Dashboards module, additionally a catalog package will be provided. Development on this feature has not commenced yet. In the meantime, we recommend activating the soft-launch option to continue utilizing the legacy modules for SLA data.
