Password lost / Recovery option

Hi,

Is there a password recovery option for users with local account who have lost their password?

How can they perform “forgot password” procedure ? (where  DM sends a link through which they can recover access)

Thanks,

Hi Alain,

A local DataMiner user that can no longer access the system, will need the help of a DataMiner administrator to reset their password.

The administrator will have to change the password to a new known password using the change password option on the user page in system center.

Optionally you can activate the “user must change password at next login” option to have the user set a personal password.

Alain, Ive,
I’ve added a feature proposal as I can see the benefits here – as well as having some sort of native correlation that can send any new local user their access instructions when they are added on the system. With a Forgot password / password recovery function, an operator can solve access issues without the need of an Admin (it can help when multiple people are distributed across different sites and in different time zones).

Can I ask for a vote? 🙂

Hello Alberto,

I only see your answer now, sorry for the delay. Yes, this would be a very good feature.

We regularly have requests from local users asking for a reset of their PW because they can’t connect anymore.
Is there a default expiration period for the PWs of local users ?
If so, are they notified of the future PW expiration?

Thank you very much for your support.

Hi Alain,

For local users, DataMiner relies on the Windows OS DataMiner runs on. In other words, the local users are managed by the Windows OS. Things like password expiration or password complexity can be configured in the OS.

If it’s an option, it might also be good to look at integrating with your existing user directory (e.g. AD/LDAP, Radius, Crowd) or another identity provider through SAML. This way your users only need to maintain and remember one account.
