I have DM installed on my laptop for which the IP changes regularly, this is why I use hostnames to avoid having to reconfigure my DM on every startup. However, after upgrading to 10.4.x the IP keeps being added at the startup of DM. It seems other people are having the same issue and the answer is that hostnames is not supported: Duplicate agents after an upgrade to 10.4.2 - DataMiner Dojo
However, from our docs it seems it should be supported: DMS.xml | DataMiner Docs
Is the use of hostnames supported and is this a SW issue that the IP is being added continuously or should we update the docs that hostnames are not supported?
Hi Michiel,
Trying to use a hostname for your local agent to avoid dealing with DHCP / changing networks every day is not supported anymore since RN32951 (never was, but it "worked" well enough). Agents only recognize themselves based on their IP address. The only exception to this rule is for failover agents that are part of a failover-with-hostnames pair.
This is answer I got from our data-core team.
the best possible workaround is to remove the IPs from the DMS.xml and the SLCloud.xml before the DMA startup.
You can use this collection of PS scripts to edit SLCloud and DMS files a bit more conveniently, and work with local DM generally.
I suppose we should update the documentation.
Hope this helps,
Cheers
