What is the official policy when it comes to Windows updates of DMA?
We have WS2022 Standard on both DMAs of the failover pair. The OS updates are set to be manual so the administrator should check for them and install manually. But, is it safe to install them? Or a more detailed rules apply which updates (not) to install?
We tend to follow the policy of Windows on this matter(*), so in short keep your OS up to date.
Note that it's always good to be aware of the updates as there's always a small chance that it might cause an issue in dataminer or on the servers in general.
(*) This should be reflected in our HW requirements as well, if Windows doesn't support a certain OS anymore, then we don't either.
Do Skyline do any internal testing/verification of the monthly Windows security updates? I know that MS recently made some updates on DCOM which (for us) caused a problem in a failover system, where if you updated the failover server first, the main server would loose contact with the failover until the main server also was updated with the same security patch.
Internally on our test systems we do monthly upgrades. This happens +- 2 weeks after patch Tuesday of Microsoft.
The reason is that Microsoft sometimes has to give an additional update or has to withdraw a specific update.
Note that on our servers we only install the critical updated and not the optional ones.
Thank you.
