In this blog entry it says that you can install Cassandra in any OS, however I wonder if there is a preference between Windows and Linux. Moreover, if a customer decides to install Cassandra in Linux, does Skyline provides support as usual? Or is support limited to Windows OS?
Hi Sebastian,
Skyline Provides support for both Windows and Linux installations of Cassandra databases associated with DataMiner systems.
Currently we state no preference for the host operating system, but we pay close attention to current trends and recommendations from 3rd party providers, so this could be subject to change in the future.
We have now updated our third-party software support life cycle documentation to reflect this: https://docs.dataminer.services/user-guide/Reference/Software_support_life_cycles.html#third-party-software-support-life-cycle
Note: Since Cassandra 4.x (released on July 26, 2021), Cassandra no longer supports Windows as OS. This means Linux is now the way forward and we advise using Ubuntu LTS as this is the OS that we generally test with. We have install scripts to install Cassandra on Ubuntu: https://catalog.dataminer.services/details/package/5621
