Hello,
I wanted to know if there is a way of moving to a newer version of the Cube client directly on the DMA server, rather than forcing a specific version via the System Center in DataMiner.
Our DMS is comprised of 8 server clusters, one (DMA06) running Cube client 10.2 CU8, the other 7 DMAs running 10.2 CU5. I am certain that a while ago now we updated the client version on DMA06 by copying one of the folders in the Skyline DataMiner/Webpages folder in our staging environment that already ran on 10.2 CU8 and pasting it directly into one of the Skyline DataMiner/Webpages on DMA06. Then when users logged into the DMA06 cluster they automatically opened the session with the CU8 client.
I understand that forcing the version is not recommended, however, we would like to expose users to a new version of the Cube client in the production system on one of the DMAs while still having the option to use the client with which they are used to navigating the application, just in case they find difficulty in using the newer version.
As I said, we have not used the System Center before but enabled this in the DMA directly. I just cannot recall exactly the process we employed as it was a couple of years ago now.
Many thanks,
Hi Tom,
This is a great question, it's indeed not advised to manually force a specific Cube version for a server. This is only used for specific cases. It is so that DataMiner Cube is backwards compatible. This means that you can always connect to older servers with the latest client version. This behaviour is default when the user is using DataMiner Cube "Desktop Application". As soon as the client PC has an active internet connection, the desktop application will make sure to download the latest and greatest Cube version from the cloud.
If you don't have an active internet connection on the client PC, and you would like to replace the files on the server, for now this is a manual process, you need to request the correct files from a Skyline Employee, and manually replace all files in the Skyline DataMiner/Webpages folder on all DMA's.
Let me know if this is enough information to move forward.
Kind regards,
Robbe
Hi Robbe,
Thanks for your response!
The automatic update of the latest Cube client does not work for us because our end user group is particularly sensitive to changes in the DataMiner software. Extremely sensitive! So, any unforeseen changes that might occur to their way of operating, navigating or observing the system will raise their ire. As such, we need to carefully vet any version rolled out into production.
In any case, I have extracted the Cube.zip and versions.txt file for the relevant Cube client versions and am using the System Center>System Settings>Manage client version to download the required version to the DMA. This appears to be seamless to any users on the DMA and as long as they have the correct client version available on their machine, they will automatically use the newer version of the Cube when they restart DataMiner.
