Considering the setup of a third network interface that connects both Main and Backup DMA's using a cross cable, we've set the Failover to occur automatically, the backup agent is online, the question is: in case if the heartbeats of the backup failed; the main DMA will failover over automatically or not?

Yes, it should indeed switch to the other DMA when the heartbeats fail and when the mode is set to 'automatic'.
