Hello..
We run Dataminer Cube from a MS Azure virtual environment. i.e. we log into a Windows virtual PC and run DM Cube from there. The Virtual environment hosts many sessions simultaneously but is very powerful. However, it does not contain any GPU's (Graphics processors). There are 48 CPU cores within each virtual host. As we know, there is usually a slight degradation in performance when using DM Cube (or any application) from a virtual environment as opposed to a physical environment.
How does the 'Use hardware rendering' setting work exactly and would it be benefical in this virtual environment?
Given the above environment, are there any other performance related settings the could be recommended?
Thanks
Hi Ken,
We've been testing Azure Virtual Desktop the end of last year to verify if Cube runs fine in this environment and we didn't discover any problem. You will of course need to keep an eye on the number of sessions you're running simultaneously on those servers to make sure that the user experience is still smooth enough.
The option 'Use hardware rendering' won't have influence since you don't have hardware rendering possibilities in that environment. If you have a GPU, Cube will by default make use of it, and this option allows you to force it back to the CPU if that would be needed for one or another reason. So, this option is not really applicable since there is only the CPU available in this virtual environment.
One other option of interest is 'Use of animation', you can find it on the same settings page. You could consider to disable this option. Then you won't have certain transitions while e.g. opening a card, but that might be beneficial for the RDP connection you basically have to the virtual PC.
