Storage Monitoring: dedicated driver required or can that be done with Windows / Linux drivers?

What is the typical interface to monitor storage?

Are there dedicated drivers for NAS, SAN storage to monitor storage utilization and the storage content (like video and audio files and their size) or is such functionality embedded in an operating system driver like the DataMiner WindowsOS and LinuxOS driver?

The Windows and Linux OS drivers allow to monitor the available space per disk. This info can also be aggregated, but does not provide specific details on e.g. video files.
Some NAS systems support monitoring via SNMP or a web API. In this case additional information can be displayed by using a dedicated driver for the type of NAS. In this case, the available details will depend on what the NAS manufacturer makes available via these interfaces.
