SNMP Forwarding from DMS with multiple agents

Hi,

In a DMS with multiple DMA, and given the setting “Send all notifications via one DMA” is not checked – which DMA sends the trap northbound?

I would expect the DMA which holds the element that raised the alarm, but some test we did makes us uncertain about that, looks like it could the sent by another DMA. But before we investigate deeper into it we thought we’d ask. Running DataMiner 10.4 CU11 with 10 DMA-pairs in a failover setup.

/Roger

Hi Roger,

That is correct. A trap is by default send by the DMA hosting the element. And optionally you can activate that option to “send all notifications via one DMA”, in that case alarms are being forwarded to the chosen DMA, and then this DMA will send all the traps. But without this option active, the alarm of an element will be locally handled by the DMA itself. In other words, the DMA hosting the element will send the trap.

Regards,

Bert
