Hi, how do I manage elements in IDP that are already live on the system? I have refreshed the unmanaged inventory but the elements do not appear. For discovery, I have built several CI Types, scan ranges & discovery profiles but when I run them they discover elements already on my system. Is there a way to link a discovered element to an already live element or have IDP search for what's already on the system?
Edit: Looking into this, I've just realised that the elements I can't discover are all imported and have the original DMA ID, could this be blocking IDP from finding them automatically? One issue I have is that I have hundreds of resources already configured from these imported elements so if I change them for the discovered elements I will have to re-create all the resources and DCF links etc.
IDP 1.1.15-2116
Hi Ross,
I'm afraid I cannot reproduce the issue on 1.1.15-2116: an imported element does show up in the tab Inventory > Unmanaged.
If the imported elements were previously managed by IDP on the other DMS, they will not show up in the unmanaged inventory. Can you check if the element property 'IDP' on these elements is set to True? In that case, you should empty the property. Once done, these elements will show up in the unmanaged inventory.
However, your question did identify issues regarding imported elements.
- when you have an imported element in the unmanaged inventory, it's currently not possible to move them to the managed inventory.
- in case you have an imported element in the managed inventory, it would not be possible to move them unmanaged inventory.
We will create an issue task for this.
When this gets fixed, IDP will link the discovery result to the managed element based on IP and CI Type. However, you need to delete the discovery result and perform another discovery for this to happen.
This system isn’t live yet so I can actually rebuild it all, so this isn’t high priority.
Hi Ross,
It's working for me with IDP 1.1.14 by executing following steps:
- Create a CI Type and make sure that the correct protocol is configured in Provisioning > Element Details
- Navigate to Inventory > Unmanaged and click on the Refresh button. Your CI Type should be visible in column Detected CI Type.
- Selected your element and click on the Manage button.
Thanks Jens, I edited the question to add that the elements are imported. Do you think that could be causing the issue?
Thanks Jan-Klaas, my elements did have the IDP property and removing it has allowed the device to become unmanaged but as you mentioned, I can not register it with IDP. Is it possible to request a hotfix for an issue like this or would I need to wait for a release from the IDP team? At the moment my only option looks like removing all of my elements and resources and re-building them again without using the import function. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks again! Ross
