Documents stored on a DMA – Folders

Hi All,

I need to start storing a lot of documents on DM.

Am I correct in thinking there are currently two options (below).

  • Create a user-defined folder in the 'General' Folder
  • Upload a linked driver/connector folder

Am I correct in that this is not possible to create a user-defined folder outside the 'General' folder?

Can this be added as a feature?

And allow the grouping of the connector folders together.

BR,

Mark

Good day mark, thanks for your post!

Could you describe the use case here so the community can provide a better answer? What kind of documents do you want to store in the DMS and why? Do you need the documents sync'd across the cluster? I'm not sure what you mean by "General" folder either, are you talking about "C:Skyline DataMinerDocuments"?

Hi Mark,

When adding a document, you indeed need to choose if it's a document related to one of the connectors on the system, then it's added to a folder with the name of that connector, or if it's a 'general' document. The latter is not 'linked' to a connector but just a 'general' document and therefore it's added in the folder with the name 'general'. And you can indeed only create sub folders in the general folder or in a folder of a connector. That is not immediately something we can change because of the design of this.

When adding a document to the DMS, this file will indeed be synchronized on all DMAs. So, that's good for redundancy. But, if you have many, large files and they are being updated often, this might cause quite some synchronization traffic, especially in a larger DMS. Therefore, we have now also started to work with a storage account in the cloud to manage those files.

So, it's definitely possible to store that in the DMS documents but just be careful with the scale. If it's too much it might be better to link to external documents like in a storage account in the cloud.

Let us know if you need more details or if you want to schedule something to discuss this in more detail.

Bert

Hi Shawn, please see the attached.

We want to avoid making links to other systems that can be broken. So we have the thought of adding the documents to DM.

Ideally the documents would be spread across the cluster for redundancy. What are the impacts of this please?
