DCF and element with a vdxPage

Quite motivated to get into exploring DCF more after the recent KATA 45.

However come across an issue I cannot figure out relating to DCF with a element using a vdxPage from a protocol.

In my example I have a protocol for DEVA DB8009 which has a Visio file assigned to the protocol, I have that embedded withing my view using the shape data InlineVdx: True and on the View visio the placeholder Element shape with vdxPage: [auto].    This works perfectly embedding the protocol visio to the view.

However in my protocol visio I have defined Interface on some shapes, in this example the MAIN ANALOG interface to my first input status indiactor.

However Cube draws the line to the center of the placeholder shape, which is the default behavior if there are no interface shapes, but there are! They are in the protocol visio.

If I copy my shapes out of the protocol visio into my test view visio, the DCF lines are drawn to my input status indicators correctly.

The question is how do I get the DCF lines to correctly show up to Interface shapes within inlineVDX protocol vdxPages?

We have a few hundred of these Deva devices on different views and hence we used the protocol shapes to embed them onto the views so that any time we make an update to the protocol (or protocol visio) the update is instantly shown on all services/views with that element

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the question! Configuring it this way makes a lot of sense.

The behavior you described happens because DCF connections drawn in the Visual Overview don’t account for the content inside embedded (inline) shapes. Instead, the entire shape representing the embedded page is viewed as a single element reference, without considering its internal content.

While this approach is logical, we don’t plan to change it soon, as we’re currently focused on other priorities. For now, the only workaround is to copy the shapes to all locations where they’re needed. I realize this isn’t ideal for maintenance, but it’s currently the only way to achieve the intended result.

That's for the clarification Sebastiaan.

Unfortunately it isn't practical to copy shapes to all locations when we have hundreds of elements of the same type on different views, especially given this and other vendors are always active updating firmware.

So we will not be able to use DCF at all in our environment.
