We are trying to test if when we upgrade our cluster to 10.5.2 that all users will still be able to use their current Cube launchers to access the system. Does Cube automatically update when you upgrade your system? Or will the users need to download the 10.5.2 version of Cube separately? We have been trying to just download an old version of Cube to test but can't find a standalone installer.
Hi Lisa,
Cube updates to the latest version based on the update track, as mentioned in Managing the start window of the desktop app | DataMiner Docs.
However, you can prevent this automatic update and use a specific version of cube, that is possible as mentioned in DMA configuration related to client applications | DataMiner Docs. For this, you will need the cube.zip + versions.txt files from the upgrade package whose cube version you want to use and choose the 'Force a specific version' option.
For example, you want to upgrade your DMA to 10.5 and want to use cube version 10.4, you need to go to the upgrade package of 10.4, extract the said files and follow the documentation in the link.
The cube installer in dataminer.services tends to update itself to the latest version, so the documentation above will help you force a specific version of cube and prevent automatic updates.

And as a second note, while you can manage Cube versions via the configuration (auto, force a version, …), you cannot manage the 'Cube Launcher' version. The Cube launcher is the tiny little program that downloads and hosts the correct Cube version based on your config/connection endpoint. The Cube launcher updates to newer versions available on your agents or on DataMiner.Services. In this context, there is one important note to make for the systems that have firewall configuration based on digital signatues and that is that the latest Cube launcher versions are being signed with an updated Skyline Signature. This means you might need extra firewall configuration when new Cube launchers are being used. The latest Cube version can always be downloaded from https://dataminer.services/ and then click the button on the top right named 'Desktop Installation'.
Just a note here: every dataminer server version comes with a minimum Cube version requirement. If you install DataMiner 10.5.5 then the 10.5.5 Cube is the lowest version you can use, but you can later update to Cube 10.5.6, 10.5.7, … 10.6.2 etc when these are released. You cannot however use any 10.4.x Cube to connect to a 10.5.x server.
