DataMiner Backup main and failover Agent

Hi Dojo,

We have a DMS with 6 main and 6 failover agents. The backups are offloaded to a different network path for each failover pair. We take a configuration backup without Database.

Now we see that the names of these backups are don’t contain any reference to the Agent name. So we are unable to know the difference between the main and failover agent. Normally this shouldn’t be an issue, as the configuration should be identical on both main and failover. This leads me to two questions I have:

  1. Would there be a way to customize the names of the Backups?
  2. Would it be possible to only get 1 backup taken for each failover pair, eg. only the active agent at that time?

Kind regards,

I can say:
* when scheduling in a backup via Cube, it’ll take a backup for both failover agents.
* when manually triggering a backup (on e.g. the online agent), it’ll only take a backup of that 1 agent.

This is based on looking into a couple of systems having failovers (i.e. v10.4 CU5 and CU6).

Hi Stacey.

In essence, the online agent will be the one taking the backups, so when the DMA switches, the agent that takes the backup will change as well.
DataMiner does not make a distinction between main and failover agent in its backup mechanism.
I will refer to my response to query on failover backup file name – DataMiner Dojo for further information.
