Dashboard – Filter does not apply on querys?

Hi,

I currently try to visualize table data & make it selectable over dropdown's in dashboards.
If i use a dropdown with data "Elements" filtered by "Protocols (Kvarta DVB Stream Monitor)" &
use this dropdown as Filter on a Parameter table that uses the data "parameter (Kvarta: Table "Service")",
i get a functional table of Services, that a user can filter with the dropdown.

Now to the problem:
I want to make a 2nd table, that shows all instances of one Service & do the selection again over a dropdown.
As data for the dropdown i now created a query, that give me all "Name" from the parameter table "Service"

When I try do use this dropdown now as filter, nothing happens.
Tried a parameter table and a table with a query, but the Selected Service on the query dont get used as filter on the tables. Does query data behave different to Element data?

Hi Thomas, what data type of the dropdown with the query are you using as a filter on the parameter table? And is there any other data that is not the query present on the dropdown?

Thomas Vogel commented 1 day ago

the dropdown uses the query shown in the 2nd screenshot.
what to you mean by data type here?

How did you link the dropdown component with the query to the parameter table component? With data type I mean what you added as a filter: 'Element', 'Tables', … there are multiple available on the dropdown.

Thomas Vogel commented 1 day ago

Ah okay,
the parameter table accepts elements & indices,
while the table only accepts the data type texts.

None of this options work, while the other options are greyed out.

That all seems correct. Is there any other data on the dropdown itself, or only the query?

Rafael got the elegant solution for this problem:
You can link the Dropdown inside the query as filter.

That is very intuitive & convenient solution as it shows directly what the filter is doing on which data point. It also allows for multilayer filtering with different sources and let you choose the filter method.

This should the primary way to use filter and should be more prominent in the documentation imho.
