Can someone explain exactly what this setting does and what it affects? Items such as:
- Does this affect how the Stand Alone cube client interfaces to the DM agent
- Does this affect how the Stand Alone cube client interfaces to DM agent modules such as Reports and Dashboards
- Does this affect the Web Interface option present in every element's Data page
- If this is set to Chromium are any IE Internet settings still needed.
- such as trusted sites?
- If Chromium is selected does chrome need to be installed or are all the required elements included with the DM installation.
Thanks
Additonal information:
Do Web Interface pages work differently with Chromium? How?
It is basically an alternative rendering engine. The IE render engine is built into Windows so it is easy to provide it, however, it is outdated. By default it renders in IE7 mode. Even that latest IE11 mode does not support many modern web frameworks, and very few websites take IE compatibility into account nowadays.
What does this setting really change? How does it affect cube functionality?
The setting changes the rendering engine used for the specific scenario (global, per driver or per visio shape).
As of 10.0.10, the Chromium engine is used for internal DataMiner webpages (help, reporting, dashboards, ticketing, …) and cannot be changed back to IE.
Does it no longer use IE stuff in the backend, so no need to setup IE options like trusted sites?
The Chromium engine does not use any of the IE options, it is completely independent.
Does this setting also affect my cube if I’m connecting through IE?
Yes, the Chromium engine can also be used in XBAP mode.
