Setting up a proper compute platform these days can be quite challenging, taking into account everything that factors into it (e.g. number of cores on the CPU, virtualization layers, underlying technologies such as Network Attached Storage). I heard that Skyline was working on a tool to assist with the proper design and scaling of the compute that is required for a DataMiner System. Is that correct, and when is the estimated availability of that tool?
Correct. We are indeed working on a tool to help out on planning the specs of a DataMiner System. How many nodes do I need? Which specs should they have? Which hardware do I need if I host the VMs myself? These kind of questions should be addressed with this tool, and this is going to be available here on the Dojo website.
I hope to make a first version available in a couple of weeks from now, but also be aware there are many variables at play. The first version not allow you to configure everything possible in DataMiner (e.g. CPE/EPM environments, SRM impact on Elastic, ...). In other words, initially it will be mainly applicable for "average" systems. More advanced systems, might require additional input fields which we will add in future iterations of the tool.
Thanks. This would definitely be helpful for assessing the hardware specs for our future DataMiner deployments!
It would be great if the release could be accompanied by some sort of help (video, doc) that could guide users through the use of the tool.
