Please, Dojo,
Is it still possible to tweak some settings to use a different browser engine in CUBE?
And what are the plans around the embedded Chromium Engine for CUBE? Will it still be used for the desktop app for future versions of DataMiner?
Thanks
You can change the default browser engine via Cube > System Center > System Settings > Plugins. You can also configure protocol-specific overrides, e.g. if a certain older device only works with the Internet Explorer engine because it uses a Java or Flash applet. Note that the default choice only applies to visio shapes and datadisplay (device embedded webpages), the native DataMiner apps (Reports, Dashboards, Ticketing) wil always use the Chromium browser engine.
There is no concrete roadmap yet, but I expect in the future that the Edge browser engine will become the default. It offers the following advantages:
- automatically updates with Windows Update
- better rendering performance
- better single sign-on experience
- support for proprietary audio and video codecs like H.264/H.265
