Hi All,
In the DataMiner Compute Requirements section of the DataMiner Docs, it was mentioned that for an On-Premise setup, the disk size for OpenSearch and Cassandra (1 disk setup) should be 1 TB respectively.
However, users are strongly requesting to start with 500 GB initially for now, as it can be expensive to begin with 1 TB. They can increase it in the future once the system matures and there is a need. They are using internal VMware.
Can they start with 500 GB for now, or is it a compulsory requirement related to performance that the disk size should be 1 TB for OpenSearch and Cassandra (1 disk setup) respectively?
Thank you in advance.
Hi Jeeva,
No, it is not compulsory to have 1TB for each. You can install both Cassandra and OpenSearch on a single 250GB drive and it will work fine. If you take a look at legend at the bottom of the scheme you can see that blue blocks mean normal, not minimum.
Do note that there is a reason why separate 1TB disks are recommended, however if your user is just starting out with DataMiner and wants to get a feel of how things work, less disk space will be fine.
Also note that DataMiner will not let you install both Cassandra and OpenSearch on same disk and you will have to install them manually, it's not hard but just something to be aware of. It is possible that during that process either Cassandra or OpenSearch complains about having the other DB on the same disk, but you can disregard this if you are sure space will not be an issue.
P.S.
You can also maybe suggest STaaS as POC or long term solution for storage. It will speed up the setup and lower the cost, both upfront and in the long run.
Hope this helps and let me know if there is anything else I can help with,
Cheers
