I'd like to be able to apply a blinking effect to a dynamic shape on Visio, that will blink when the Service that is represented is in Alarm and will stop blinking and become solid when that alarm is acknowledged in the Alarm Console. Is this possible?

Hi Dino - DataMiner has a system-wide blinking option for alarms that are not acknowledged.  Making alarms without owner blink | DataMiner Docs

Note that this blinking then applies everywhere, so for example also on the icon in the surveyor tree.

Thank you for your response Ben! Is there a way to just have it on a specific Dashboard using the Blink shape data

Ben Vandenberghe [SLC] [DevOps Enabler] commented 14th January 2023

I cannot be 100% conclusive on this, as I’m not super skilled on leveraging all the options supported by Visual Overview – but I believe it is unlikely. The blink option in Visual Overview for shapes is linked in the first place to the value of a variable, and the variable can be a parameter, property or session variable. And to get from any alarm on any metric on any element part of a service, and the fact that one of those is not acknowledged yet, is a bit of a leap. A shape can also be linked to an alarm, but in your case it is really about all the alarms on any metric on any element part of the service. So I would say that the system-wide blinking option would be your only one.

The ‘Blink’ shape data can make use of extended conditional shape actions (see https://docs.dataminer.services/user-guide/Basic_Functionality/Visio/miscellaneous/Extended_conditional_shape_manipulation_actions.html). With this it’s possible to let any shape blink whenever an element, view or service is in alarm (and has a lot of other capabilities). However this does not make use of the ownership of alarms in any way.
