Basic Service Suppression

Is it possible to suppress/mask a basic service without the use of an enhanced service?

We are automating more of our monitoring and are looking at how we can quickly deploy and decommission monitoring and a service is easier to do this with. I've had a look through the documentation, and videos and I don't think it is possible.

Hi Rebecca,

It's not possible to mask a service.

The idea behind this is, that a service doesn't really have any alarms.
It's the elements that have the alarms.
A service will only logically group the alarms.

When an alarming parameter is included in one (or more) service, the service impact and services property of that alarm are updated, and link the alarm to one or more services.

Since an alarm can be present in multiple services, it would not make sense to allow a user to suppress a service, as this would mean you'd have to suppress the real alarm, directly in the element. This would also mask it from any other services where the alarm might be relevant.

The same is true for an enhanced service.
When you mask the enhanced service, you only mask the parameters that exist directly in the service protocol, but not those linked to the elements included in the service.

Thank you for your reply. This is a bit of a shame, I was really hoping this was going to be possible.

For this use case we are building services per channel. Which can have multiple elements. So if we know that a channel has an issue or is under maintenances we want to reduce the alarms for the operators. We have had a lot of issues with alarms coming in and out in the past. Previously we have got round this by building complex enhanced services with options to suppress the monitoring but we are looking to simplify this for automating. I will have to have another think about how we do this.

Hi Rebecca,

I’d like to understand the full use-case.
How would you expect the system to deal with alarms that are used in multiple services? Would you expect the alarms to be masked everywhere?
