Which types of compatibility does DataMiner support?
- Can I connect with a newer Cube client to an older server (backwards compatible)?
- Can I connect with an older Cube client to a newer server (forwards compatible)?
Hi Jens, I'm not in the right position to give you a crystal clear answer on your question but since I'm working with the DataMiner Cube Start Window (formerly referred to as the Cube Launcher), I don't struggle longer with setup a connection to DMAs who are using different versions.
Hi Jens,
There is no guarantee on this.
It depends on the changes that were done in a certain version. If these changes had no influence on the communication between client and server, it will work. But if something changed in the communication, it will fail. To be sure that all communication works as designed, always use the client version that comes with your server version. As Koen indicated the DataMiner Cube Start Window is indeed the best way to avoid incompatibilities.
Since we introduced the 'Cube start Window', you don't have to worry again about your installed DataMiner Cube version (standalone). You just install 'DataMiner Cube from your local landings page (https://yourAgent) or from Dataminer.Services:
Once installed, you can connect to any DataMiner version (in the background some specific client files will be downloaded, compatible with your server version) Upgrades/Updates of your DataMiner System will automatically propagate to your clients upon the next connection.
You can compare it with the ease of use we had with DataMiner Cube running in the browser (xbap / Internet explorer), but then applied to the Cube Desktop/Standalone version.
