Hi All,
RTEs occur when a DataMiner process thread does not respond for 15 minutes. Half-open RTEs occur after 7.5 minutes. I am curious about the use case of the Half-open RTEs. Does anyone know why we have the Half-open RTEs?
Thanks!
Hi Jason,
As far as I'm aware it's intended to simply be an early indication that something might be wrong in a thread in the process, signaled half way through the full response timeout threshold. Nothing more.
Half-open RTEs are a type of run-time error that can occur in a protocol thread 1. They occur when a group takes longer than 7 minutes and 30 seconds but less than 15 minutes to finish 1. In this state, the group is considered to be in a half-open state 1.
The purpose of having half-open RTEs is to indicate that there is an issue with the thread and the element causing the error 1. It serves as a warning that there may be a problem that needs to be addressed 1.
For example, in the context of the Cisco Manager connector, half-open RTEs started showing up after the connector had been installed for 7 years and remained without updates for 2 years 2. This indicated that there was an issue with the connector and the RTEs continued to appear for months 2.
By monitoring and addressing half-open RTEs, it allows for the identification and resolution of potential issues in the system 12.
