Trending data is lost after 24hrs – why?

DM 9.6.10

The data for some parameters in client's environment is only retained for 24hrs. This screenshot was taken on 21st (and only shows data back to the night of the 20th):

This is the same trend, showing the data only back to last night (not quite 24hrs - 23hrs 27mins of data present):

Where can we configure the data retained to be more than 24hrs? We have set the System Center > time to live > DMS Trending Real-time parameter to 7 days. Indeed, other parameters do successfully retain data beyond this ~24hr mark.

Many thanks

It was found that in the MaintenanceSettings.xml file, the <Trending><TimeSpan> xml tag needed to be removed

Hi Jack,

Can you evaluate on which DataMiner agent the element (for which you see this behavior) is located?
Maybe the settings on that DataMiner agent are different?

Is that possible Michiel. I thought this was a global system setting?

Jack Perrott-Webb commented 29th January 2021

Hi Michiel,

The time to live value is the same (7 days for real-time) when logged in directly to the DMA in question. I believe the parameter is stored in MaintenanceSettings.xml (is this correct?).

However, a different parameter on the same element (and therefore agent) is able to retain data beyond ~24hrs. So I do not believe it to be DMA configuration.

EDIT: To echo Ben, yes, the time to live settings seem to be under DMS Defaults with no overrides in place, so I don’t believe there is anything set on this specific DMA anyway.

Hi Jack,

Could you try to see if you can request more data through the Trend Data Inspector?
You can find that tool in the Client Test Tool => Advanced => Tests => Trend Data Inspector.
Then we know if it would be Server or Client related.
