Good Afternoon Team,
We want to know it is possible to migrate devices/elements between DMA Agents in the versión of DMA 10.0.0.0-10886-CU18, the elements can be linux servers, CMTS like CASA, ARRIS or Harmonic, anyone make test on that version of DMA?
Regards
Hi Javier,
The element migration is a powerful tool that allows the user to move elements between DMA in the Same DMS without losing its trended history, alarms, and configuration. However, as with any tool, there are limitations.
We have found by experience that in systems with heavy load and in elements like the one you mention, it is better to recreate the element from scratch in a different DMA.
The reasoning behind this is:
- CMTS, IP Routers and Video Routers to mention a few are notorious to have tables with hundreds of entries and more than a dozen columns. The trending information stored in the database is quite substantial, so a query to extract that information can demand more resources than the DMA can allocate.
- The final exported file size can range from a few hundred MB to several GB (we have seen some in 12 GB) depending on the trending, alarms and element related data available.
- The import will have the same challenges but this time in writing to the Database.
As an alternative, you can use the same Migration tool but this time without selecting the trending of the element. Keep in mind that the exported element will maintain the same ID, so you need to ensure that no other element in the system have that one.
Are you having a particular issue with these elements? Could you please elaborate why do you need to execute this procedure for these elements?
Good Morning Arturo,
We want to make a balance of the CMTS that we had on our Dataminer cluster, for example if in one DMA we had 6 cmts and in another DMA just 3, we want to transfer almost 1 CMTS (CMTS is only a example).
We are trying this to reduce the Database compactation process in some DMA Agents.
