Do we have scripts / a solution available to create periodic backups through DataMiner for Cassandra or OpenSearch for self-hosted deployments (e.g. to trigger backup via Medusa or using OpenSearch RESTAPI)?

Hi Thomas,

Currently we do not have scripts or a solution available which covers this.
For OpenSearch the snapshots can be taken using the REST API, but a more convenient method is to configure a policy using snapshot management. This allows you to automate a schedule for snapshots taken by OpenSearch within OpenSearch itself.

For Cassandra, we recommend Medusa to manage backups for the cluster. Whilst Medusa itself does not have a configurable policy such as OpenSearch snapshot management, it is a command line tool which can easily be run on a regular basis using a cron job. Triggering this from a script in DataMiner would require SSH access, adding additional difficulty to the setup.

For both OpenSearch and Cassandra, management of the backups, restores, repairs, etc… is the responsibility of the system administrator, necessitating some knowledge and familiarity with these databases.
For a worry-free and hands off solution, consider STaaS.
