On a system there are IRDs of multiple manufacturers.
These IRDs are often physically moved and reassigned a different IP.
If we use IDP to automatically detect a device and create an element, what happens when that device with a specific IP is replaced with another device of a different manufacturer?
Will it delete the original element and create a new one with the new connector?
Hi Jeroen,
IDP will not delete elements if it detects that an IP appears again for a different CI Type
That is actually a supported scenario where you can have multiple devices on the same IP and still be managed by IDP.
This is useful for scenarios like when you have multiple cards in a chassis that share an IP
I do however foresee that IDP may get "confused" if they are of the same type just different devices and at that point, it may not detect the new one since it still sees the same IP Address - CI Type combination for a different one.
Also, your data on the Managed tab may go out of sync and still point to the old IP address for some elements.
Hi Jeroen,
Have you considered plugging in a specific CI-Type provisioning script into IDP for those CI-Types? Whereas I'm not sure IDP will trigger the provisioning workflow in case an IP address 'reappears' - that is something we may have to include to IDP if not there today (i.e. : trigger provisioning of an element in case an IP address is discovered again (after being non-responding) with another CI-type match. This would allow you to be specific on removing old element with that IP address, before provisioning the new element.
