Hello,
I am trying to add multiple units or AppearTV using the Device Discovery option. I have included the IP Address range where the devices are located. I am able to ping them from the DMA server so connectivity is good.
If i try to configure "Device type" to Protocol Specific, there is no way to select the protocol i need (AppearTV in my case).
I tried to do it like this and i ended waiting more than 20 minutes for 10 scanned IPs. Nothing returned, i just had the "Discovery in progress..." message.
I also tried to use the other option "Generic" from "Device type", checking the Ping and SNMP options but i had nothing returned.
Am i doing something wrong?
Thanks !
After the installation of IDP
- First, you will need to create CI Types (via the tab Admin > CI Types). For convenience, you automatically generate CI types for the connectors on your system. Alternatively, you can also create new ones (from scratch).
- Secondly, edit the CI Types and configure how these can be discovered (details in CI Type Management wizard). This is also done via the tab Admin > CI Types.
- Thirdly, start a discovery from the Inventory > Discovered tab by launching a custom discovery. This will open a pop-up where you can specify the IP Address ranges and CI type you want to search for. (Tip : in the last screen of the popup, choose the option to save these settings as a scan range so you easily re-use it later).
Alternatively if you really have no idea what's out there and how to discover it.
- Go to Inventory > Discovered and make sure Identify Unknown devices: is enabled.
- Start a discovery by launching a custom discovery. In the first screen, specify the IP address ranges and in the second screen specify to perform the discovery by discovery profile SNMP_MIB_II or Ping. With the first option, all devices which respond to the SNMPv2 request with OIDs of SNMP MIB II will be listed. With the last option, IDP will find all devices which respond to a Ping request. If you don't have any CI Types at this point, all devices will be reported with the CI Type being Unknown.
- The results will show up in the table Discovered Elements. You can can click on Show Response to see what the device returned. This can be valuable input to configure (or further fine-tune) your CI Types.
I hope this will get you started.
Hi Marian, you can use DataMiner IDP to scan your network and provision the elements. After you've installed DataMiner IDP, you can start a discovery with the built-in SNMP discovery profile. Given the the returned results, you can then craft your CI Types so the devices are categorized under the correct CI Type. Next, when you also configure the provisioning part of the CI Type (e.g. you link it to the AppearTV), you can provision the discovered devices with a single click.
There's also a nice demo on Dojo - Automatically Discover your Network Inventory - DataMiner Dojo
Hi Marian,
Nice to meet you!
- The Device Discovery wizard requires a network discovery element using the Production version of the connector Skyline IP Network Discovery.
- Alternatively, advanced element discovery and provisioning is possible with the IDP app. See DataMiner IDP app.
I would say that these days, we recommend people to use IDP, as discovery is just a part of the process. Typically you'd require the discovered elements to be provisioned within DataMiner, automatically with the correct connector and the corresponding details.
Kind Regards,
Jarno
Hi guys,
Thank you for replying on this. I have followed the guides and ISP has been installed. But i am unable to search for any elements. Something must have gone wrong and i do not understand what.
There are several videos about how IDP discovers and works but none of them is for the installation part or 1st configuration that should be made so it can find elements.
So, i am still at the beginning with the IDP and i do not understand how to move further.
Can you, please, advise?
Thanks!
