Element Replication reconnection behavior

Hi Community,

In an element replication scenario, what would be the behavior when the DMA where the element is replicated temporarily loses the connection with the original connector?

My assumption is that during the timeout period, the replicated element will not receive any updates and the data within the connection loss and reestablishment period will NOT be available on the replicated element after the connection is reestablished (the replicated element will receive only the new updates).

Can someone confirm the expected behavior?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Flavio,

A correction to my previous answer. Indeed, it is possible to buffer data from replication. You have two settings that can help you to buffer data:

  • maxMessagesToBuffer
  • maxMinutesToBuffer

More information can be found in RN6854. Currently this information is not available in DataMiner Docs (I will check if it is possible to include this update).

Hope it helps!

I’m not sure if that’s correct. As far as i know, there is a replication buffer, which allows source elements to fill up the gab in replicated elements if there is a connection loss. I didn’t find any documentation describing this in detail, but the help does contain a section on how to enable and disable replication buffering.

Hi Ive,
You are right! Investigating a bit further I found the settings that should be updated:
– maxMessagesToBuffer
– maxMinutesToBuffer
More information is available in RN6854. I could not find this information in DataMiner Docs though. I will update my answer.
Thanks Ive
