Does 10.4 still work with MySQL as the local database

Does 10.4 still work with MySQL, or does it require migrating to Cassandra? In other words, can a 10.3 MySQL based system be upgraded to 10.4 and still work fine with MySQL? If yes, what future main release version of DM will STOP being compatible with MySQL and REQUIRE migrating to Cassandra?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jeff,

According to this page in the docs, MySQL local database is not supported anymore as of DataMiner 10.3 (Q4 2022).

It’s recommended to migrate to another database technology because setups that are still using MySQL don’t have access to all recent DataMiner features. Older features will continue to work up to DataMiner 10.4.0.

Tom,
Thanks for the info. For clarification, the main reason for my questions is to differentiate the difference between MySQL not being supported any longer by Skyline, and DM no longer functioning with MySQL at some future version. There are installations where the client is not necessarily interested in new features that require Cassandra/Elastic and just want to know when their DM system will no longer work with their existing MySQL setup, thus requiring them to migrate to Cassandra. At some future version of DM Cassandra will be the only database option and it would be nice to know exactly when and what version that will be. DM 10.2 installation iso no longer contains MySQL files but still runs fine with MySQL when upgraded from previous versions and I assume same with 10.3 but not sure about 10.4. If same with 10.4 then what about 10.5? I assume that at some point this will not be the case and the system must be migrated to Cassandra/Elastic and it would be helpful to know what version that will be.

Thanks again.

Looking at the release notes for DM Main Release 10.4.0 CU02 update, it looks to me like MySQL is still supported ( from a compatibility point of view ) since it includes some MySQL specific items, but I could be wrong.

Just an FYI for anyone that is interested, I upgraded my MySQL based demo system to the latest 10.4 main release last week and everything appears to be working just fine with MySQL. Alarms, Information events, and Trending appear to all be working as expected.

Hope this provides some value to the DM community out there.

Cheers

Hi Jeff, it is indeed correct that MySQL is not actively being blocked in 10.4, but be aware that it’s not supported and therefore this setup is no longer actively maintained and validated/tested… But the code for MySQL is indeed not blocked or removed yet in 10.4.
