Hello Dojo,
Is there any reason for inconsistency in Document folders features. Things functioning on the one way in the General document and Protocol document folders and on the other way in Elements folders.
Why in General document and Protocol document folders on document right click You get Open/Save/Add/Delete dialog
and on the Element folders You get only Rename/Add/Delete dialog.
Also, when it is added document into Element folder it is added blank document, only with name but without document content.
I'm using:
Thank You.
Hi Mario,
The document you show is linked to a specific element, this type of document behaves differently than 'normal' documents.
For example:
Documents linked to elements are only stored on the DataMiner agent hosting the element, these are not synced to other agents of the DataMiner cluster. This feature was added specifically for uploading very large files to the DataMiner.
The content of the document is only stored on the DataMiner agent hosting the element, but a small (1 byte) empty file is synced to the other agents of the cluster just so they're aware of the document. I believe you're opening this small empty file, could you try viewing the file on the agent hosting the element?
You can only delete these 'element documents' when connected to the agent hosting the element. I believe this feature was only implemented as upload, not download. This is why you don't see the save or open options.
To download the document you could re-upload the file as a regular document, which will be synced and downloadable from every agent.
Hi Mario, you are completely correct, it does not make sense that you cannot download these documents. I’m afraid there is no workaround available, so I would suggest requesting a new software feature so our development team can implement this change.
Hi Jens,
Unfortunately, when it is added file trough Dataminer Cube in Element Document folder also on element hosting agent is only added a small (1 byte) empty file. So practically, this functionality trough Dataminer cube is unusable.
The only way to put real document inside this Element folder is to put them into document folder path trough agent server OS.
Yes I could use “regular” document folder for possibility to download and save document from every agent, but I don’t see reason why this can’t be also possible for Element documents files on hosting agent. In my case it will be useful that user who works on specific element to have possibility for element dedicated documents to open file or to download and save it to own PC.
Thank You.
