I've been making viso dashboards recently and I develop them with the 'edit in visio' right click menu option on the dashboard. This protocol visio should have 3 pages, with around 4 groups each, however many more appear in Visio. I'm wondering if Visio is representing all of the copies of the child groups needed for the dashboard (i.e. if the table is 5 rows it's showing 5 copies of that child group in visio now)? Has anyone else experienced this?
Also I've found that there's sometimes when I save the visio file and the DM visio no longer updates, I have to close visio and DM Cube and re-open both and then 'edit in visio' again to restore the connection between the two, is that a bug or is there something I can to do make that connection persist?
Hi James,
A Visio 'Window' is not necessarily a Visio page. You see this in the name of the 'window', i.e. it contains the unique name of the shape and <GROUP> as postfix. You are typically getting this by using the 'Open in Group' action of the context menu:
This is not a problem and shouldn't give any side effects, besides opening an extra window. Through the 'View' tab of Visio, you can hit the 'Cascade' action and then you'll be able to fairly easily close all of them.
What I typically recommend is the Drawing Explorer: Edit your drawing in the Drawing Explorer window - Microsoft Support. This gives you a clear insight of how the shapes are grouped and how all pages are constructed.
As for your Visio Edit is not linked anymore with DataMiner Cube, this is a known issue but I don't think there's yet a solution. If it happens to often, consider reporting the issue to Techsupport.
Kind Regards,
Jarno
Right, thanks for the extra comment. I don’t experience this as I typically work through the Drawing Explorer. Unfortunately, I can’t help you further with this. This looks to me more a Visio-specific behaviour, rather than something with the integration into DataMiner.
Kind Regards,
Jarno
Thanks Jarno, I know that a window is a group, but my point was that there’s more windows/groups than I’ve actually created, and they seem to be orphaned, because when I edit a group I created and look at another clone of the same group the clone does not update.
