DCF – Visual Overview – Combining multiple interfaces in one shape

Is it possible to combine multiple DCF interface in one Visio shape?

We have a case where on output side a device has 4 interfaces, of which only 1 is active at any given time. Each of these interfaces has an external DCF connection to the same destination interface (they work as a redundant group).

I'd like to be able to define 1 interface shape to cover these?

  • Could this be achieved via a wildcard * ? Each interface is named 'B3.[number]'
  • Could this be achieved via the [auto] shape data?
  • If not, other options?

Also important to note is that on input side we have additional interface shapes, which are are already explicitly referred to.

Thanks!

Hi Ruben,

As far as I am aware, our support is limited to linking a shape to a single interface. This interface can be dynamically linked through various methods, including using the ID, the name (which can include wildcards), or the [auto] tag. The latter option offers several variations, such as ActivePath, Connector, Input, and Output. However, once resolved, it only points to a single interface and not a group of interfaces.

If you were to store the active interface in a specific location and retrieve it using a placeholder, we might be able to find a potential solution. However, I'm uncertain whether the current software gracefully handles updates to the 'Interface' shape data.
