Requesting thoughts on a backup strategy:
Currently I have an agent performing an on-disk backup through Cube of "Agent without the Database" (as it is on a dedicated Cassandra machine). Then a few hours later we perform a whole machine backup of the Dataminer Agent Virtual Machine.
So the question is:
Is there any benefit to even doing the Dataminer Cube backup? I will have a copy of the virtual disk and thus the files would be contained inside that backup. Or does the Cube backup perform additional steps to ensure the state of the files are neatly packaged and "frozen" in that moment to ensure successful restore.
Thanks, Everyone!
Hi Jorge
I think we can deduct an answer from the following answers:
- DMA FO vs VM Snapshot - DataMiner Dojo
- VM snapshot during Elastic/Cassandra write operations - DataMiner Dojo
I would also like to point to our DM Docs:
Some users seem to be using VM snapshots as form of backup. Officially we recommend to use DM backups.
VMWare also recommends to not use VM snapshots as backups.
Similar to e.g. server patches/updates. We do recommend to take a VM snapshot for larger activities like dataminer upgrades or downgrades.
I hope this helps!
