Connector ‘Generic SMPP SMS Sender’ upgradable to also ‘receive’ messages?

As can be read from the description (and the name) of the “Generic SMPP SMS Sender” connector, seems that it ‘only’ allows to send SMS but it is not designed to ‘get’ the data from incoming SMSs received by the SMS Gateway. Can this connector be upgraded accordingly – as this feature (receive messages) is needed for the current project MoMe is handling with Cellnex?

Hello Bart,

The connector you are referring to was specifically developed to act as a gateway between DataMiner and an existing SMS Gateway system to be able to send SMS notifications to mobile terminals without the need to install a dedicated SMS HW Gateway (like e.g. SMS Eagle, …).

It was designed and currently works one-way (from DataMiner to Mobile clients).  The interface to the SMS Center however is based on the standard SMPP specification v3.4 which does allow to send and receive short messages.

So to your question – “Can the connector be upgraded to also receive messages?”  I believe that it should be possible indeed – since the specification allows it.

But it will require some more detailed investigation on how it could be done exactly.

Cheers

Koen.
