Can GetParameterIndexByKey produce null for numeric values?

If you retrieve a table cell via a GetParameterIndexByKey, can this be compared to null?
The table cell is of type : numeric text, double, lengthtype: next param.
The column type is Retrieved.

Yes, if the table cell is not initialized then the returned object is null (tested on DataMiner 10.0.12.0)
