Hi all .. happy belated Xmas and New year.

How do I set the policy in user settings ‘Use Polling’ at a group level?

Thanks

In case you would want to apply polling by default to all your users, you can also configure this in connectionsettings.txt file on the DataMiner agents (see DataMiner Help). This way all clients connections to that specific agent with ‘auto’ settings will use the settings you have specified.

Hello Ken,

Unfortunately the cube settings app doesn’t provide such functionality.

Only the user settings can be stored in group settings. Those user settings are stored per user and group on the DataMiner.

The connection setting ‘Polling interval’ is a computer setting, stored on the client PC.

Providing an automation script to apply this computer setting would be the closest alternative.

In case this is a valuable to you, don’t hesitate to suggest this feature to be able to cache a set of computer settings on one client pc to be available for loading on any other client PC.

Best wishes to you too,

Karl

Wondering what is (or was) the use case here: Cube clients can connect either through “eventing mode” or through “polling”, with the latter being just some sort of quick workaround (plan B solution) that a DataMiner system provides by default if the required set of ports are blocked for any given reason. This is based on “.NET Remoting”.
Cube connections require a range of ports that needs to be allowed on the involved firewalls.

Within a production environment, I believe the general recommendation is still to work with “eventing” as this allows a faster notification (from servers to clients), rather than with “polling” (from the client to the servers), if nothing else as the latter increases the load on servers lineraly with the number of Cube clients connected.

Hi Ken,

Happy holidays!

Thank you for reaching out, I believe it is possible. Can you try to configure the settings for a given user and then push the setting to a group as per below:

Hope it will help.

Kind regards
