This is a test server for validation and when i try to update i receive the following message:
localhost Error Upgrade failed: Lock services failed: 'Unable to lock the services: The handle is invalid.'
Are there any privileges or local security settings missing for the user? The task bar utility has been started with admin privileges and i used it for the upgrade.
many thanks
Hi,
If the current DataMiner version is 9.6 and you want to upgrade to 10.1 then please first upgrade to 10.0 and from there upgrade to 10.1 so the correct upgrade path is followed.

Hi Sebastian,
I remember encountering this in the past and the following steps seemd to solve it for me (although I remember this didn't work for everyone at the time):
- Stop DataMiner, make sure all services are stopped or all executables are killed
- Execute UnRegister DataMiner.bat and UnRegister dll's of DataMiner.bat as Administrator (they can be found in C:\Skyline DataMiner\Tools)
- Reboot the Windows server
- Execute Register dll's of DataMiner (silent).bat and Register DataMiner as Service.bat as Administrator (also in C:\Skyline DataMiner\Tools)
- Don't start your DMA, but upgrade by executing the upgrade through SLTaskbarUtility (double click the .dmupgrade file)
- After the upgrade your system should be running again
I hope this works
thanks for the quick response. i tried it but i had no success
thanks for the quick response. the task bar utility using the upgrade to dm10 had the same error, but i was able to use the upgrade functionality in the system center with this version and now this dma is on main release 10
