How does the protocol Update Center work for a customer who is having multiple DataMiner clusters?

If a protocol version is made available by Skyline for a customer who is having up to three or four different DataMiner Clusters; does it pops up in the update centre of all the clusters?
and if the protocol was downloaded by the customer from the update centre of one of the clusters what is the expected behaviour on the rest? does the protocol will remain available on the update centre of the rest of the clusters or it will disappear since it was downloaded already by the customer?

To elaborate on the first correct answer, some more information on the second question :

If the protocol was downloaded by the customer from the update center of one of the clusters, the cube Update Center would initially show the most recent new versions of protocols in your DMS.
However, if you want to see all available versions, click the ‘Show all available updates’ button at the bottom of the list of available protocols.
See DataMiner help.

Hi Kawssar,

Yes, if a protocol or connector is available for a customer, it will be available on all DataMiner Systems of that customer.

And it doesn’t matter if the connector is downloaded on one of the clusters or not, it will always remain available on all DataMiner Systems of that customer.

Thanks, Bert for your answer that is very clear, however, for example, I have Microsoft Platform available in all my clusters but the update centre is showing or proposing different versions in each cluster, that is why I just wanted to understand the logic of proposing the recent version of the protocol, and why it is different from cluster to another? But as per the answer from Masschelein, I guess “Show all available updates” will help to discover all the available versions and to decide which one to be used.

Bert Vandenberghe [SLC] [DevOps Enabler] commented 12th December 2021

Yes indeed, the initial proposed version might be different from cluster to cluster. If the connector is already installed, the update center will propose the latest version from within that branch… So, that’s the reason you might see different versions.

We have a new staging DataMiner agent running on 10.2 but we don’t see any protocols available on the update centre that can be downloaded, what is the easiest way to copy around 300+ protocols from our main cluster to the new staging system?

Hi Kawssar, did you click the button ‘Show all available updates’ at the bottom of the Update Center? Because if you click that button, it should show all the drivers you have available… By default, the ‘Check for updates’ button at the top of the Update Center only checks for updates of drivers which are already installed on the DMS (and also the drivers which have never been downloaded before).

An alternative would be to just copy the content of the ‘C:Skyline DataMinerProtocols’ directory from one of the DMAs of the main cluster to the staging DMA. Note that you would then also have the alarm and trend templates, and information templates copied along with the protocol.xml files, not sure if you want this or not. After copying, a restart of the staging DMA would be required.

Thank you, Bert, for your reply,
Unfortunately, when we click the button ‘Show all available updates’ we receive an error which already been reported to Tech Support, however, the alternative solution was succeeded when copying the ‘C: Skyline DataMinerProtocols’ directory from one of the DMAs of the main cluster.
And indeed copying the connectors along with the available templates is an added advantage in our case.
