Should I expect any issues when triggering an upgrade of DataMiner software whilst Cassandra compaction is currently in progress?
Hi Ian,
There should be no concern on doing any actions on DataMiner as long as Cassandra is reachable and handling requests correctly.
If your compaction actions in Cassandra are running long and taking a lot of memory/CPU, it might indicate that you have issues on DB. We strongly recommend using the new DB architecture (one Cassandra/elastic cluster for your DMS instead of having a Cassandra instance for every DMA), in which the data model has been reviewed to reduce heavy compaction actions.
If you are running Cassandra and DataMiner (and Elastic) on the same HW, it is strongly recommended to run them into their own VM with dedicated resources (not shared). This is to avoid as much as possible that they are impacting each other during heavy loads. Also, make sure your machines are meeting the minimum requirements. We only provide support on systems that meet the minimum requirements or that were approved by our IOC Manager to run on fewer resources (e.g. the system will only host 10 lightweight elements).
