Hi Dojo,
Just exploring the capabilities of swarming - so leaving some questions to get insights from the community:
1. Is swarming something that will be available only in DaaS?
2. Or can it be part of clusters based on managed servers?
3. When it comes to Capacity & Swarming - is still the licensed capacity of the DMA the limiting factor... or can an admin have "X" elements with some kind of "Swarm" license enabled at cluster level, regardless of the the DMA hosting the elements?
Any recommended reading - please share!
Thank you all
Thanks for your interest in swarming!
Swarming is still under development so things are subject to change, but swarming will be available for all agents: DaaS, self-hosted or even a mix.
There are some other prerequisites though:
- Must use Storage as a Service (STaaS) or Dedicated clustered storage
- The DMS cannot contain any failover agent
We will start by swarming basic elements and then expand the capabilities. Think services, special elements, redundancy groups etc.
License-wise, nothing has been changed (yet).
The license count per agent still holds, but we might revisit this in the future.
More info can be found in the Swarming | DataMiner Docs which will be updated when more info is available.
Thanks for the feedback and for the link to the article Robbe – this answers my questions – I’ll keep checking every now and then so that I can sneak peek more as the development of this feature evolves.
