Our original intention was to make this the new default starting with the 10.4 CU0 and 10.4.3 releases, but as it stands now I believe it will be postponed to a later release. There are already some improvements in those upcoming releases that provide better disconnection detection for gRPC, for example during upgrades or restarts.
As mentioned by Tom, you can already make it the default for clients by modifying the ConnectionSettings.txt file, and you can make it the default for inter-DMA communication either by configuring the connection strings in DMS.xml or by disabling .NET Remoting completely in MaintenanceSettings.xml.
Hi Dominik, I don’t know when gRPC will become the default connection, but on existing installations you can change the default connection type in ConnectionSettings file to gRPC.
