STaaS estimative of the usage

Hi, during the Empower event, I inquired about the possibility of estimating the STaaS usage of a client connected to dataminer.services for over a year. Talking with other participants, they mentioned that some had already consulted Skyline about this, and the response was a procedure with a script that would need to be executed on the agent for approximately 24 hours.

If possible, I would appreciate receiving this procedure so that we can begin estimating this client's STaaS usage. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Jardel,

You can find a step-by-step guide on how to get the estimate here:

Hi Ive,

Thank you for your quick response and for providing the official DataMiner documentation.

I noticed that the current DMA version (10.2.10.0-12242) is below what is specified in the documentation, and the cluster is still using embedded Cassandra. The procedure mentions it is intended for "Separate Cassandra DataMiner Main Release 10.4.0.0 – 16066 CU17."

I tested this in a staging environment (10.4.12.0-15149) for the same client. This environment is connected to dataminer.services and also uses embedded Cassandra, but the script failed with the following error:

 "Script Failure (CloudStorageMigration): EXIT: "Failed to parse the Cumulative Update ID for agent DMA-STG (DMAIDxxxx).
(Code: 0x80131500) Skyline.DataMiner.Automation.ScriptAbortException: Failed to parse the Cumulative Update ID for agent DMA-STG (DMAIDxxxx)
at Skyline.DataMiner.Automation.Engine.ExitFail(String reason)
at CloudStorageMigration_1.Script.VerifySupportCassandraSingleNode()
at CloudStorageMigration_1.Script.VerifyDatabaseSupport()
at CloudStorageMigration_1.Script.RunSafe()
at CloudStorageMigration_1.Script.Run(IEngine engine)"

Notes:

1. Once the script runs successfully and I can view the estimate, I will need access to the "Usage" section in Admin.dataminer.services for this organization, which I currently do not have.
2. The procedure states that cost estimations are currently limited to West Europe, UK South, Southeast Asia, and Central US. While an estimate from another region is a helpful start, it would be more beneficial for the client if we could use a customized option, such as South America (Brazil).

Do you have any insights into why the script might be failing?

Hi Jardel,

The 10.4.12 version is blow the minimum required version.
10.4.12 is a feature release.

When you're in on the feature release track, you'll need version 10.5.8 (or higher).
When you're on the main release track, you can go for a 10.4.0-[CU17] (or higher) or 10.5.0-CU5 (or higher).

Based on my understanding of the documentation running these versions of dataminer, will allow you to get a cost estimate even on separate cassandra setups.

For the notes:

1. I'm not aware of an alternative to the admin page. Is it an option to request the system admin to grant you access?

2. I'm not aware of any options to choose any of the alternate regions.

Hi Ive,

Thank you for the clarifications.

Based on your feedback, I will work with the client to separate the database onto dedicated machines. Once that is complete, we will update the DataMiner version. We will then be in a position to proceed with the STaaS cost estimation.
