In a DMS environment which has 10 main DMA's, would it be possible to have failover-pair for just 3 of them? (The other 7 stays without a failover-pair)

Yes, it is possible, the failover works individually.

To add a failover pair you must add a new DMA, please follow: Preparing the two DataMiner Agents | DataMiner Docs
