How to safely use credentials in Ad hoc data source?

I would like to make an ad hoc data source that interacts with an API.
To interact I require a log in token.

Please provide me with some options how to store / get this token without hardcoding it in the ad hoc data source. I also rather not set this as an input argument from the Low code app as this would require it to be hardcoded in the LCA.
