How to reference DVE parent element in Visio?

Hi,

Is there a way to reference the parent element of a DVE, from a Visio drawing assigned to that DVE?

I know workarounds are available, eg by using regular expressions or implementing a DVE parameter which holds the parent element’s id/name, but was wondering if there is a ‘built-in’, reliable way to achieve the same?

Thanks!

There is no out of the box way to do this. The workarounds you gave are the best way to do it.
