Hello
there is an option to get DMS Geo Redundance? im know that failover works in 1+1 agentes but for an whole cluster its posible to have a hot switch geo redundance?
Thanks
Hi Juan,
Yes, that is possible. Failover indeed works as 1+1. And this means if you have e.g. 5 agents in one location, you need 5 agents in the second location. Each agent has its counterpart in the other location. In other words, you have 5 times a 1+1, or you can call it a 5+5.
Also note that nowadays we are moving towards swarming instead of failover. Swarming has more flexibility, because it more works like load balancing where agents are separated from the content running on it. Basically, you have a bunch of agents available, and then you can move or 'swarm' the content of your DMS freely around on those agents.
With swarming you can also cover geo redundancy. Your elements could all be running on the 5 agents in location 1, and then you could swarm everything to the 5 agents in location 2.
Currently the development team is focusing on swarming as the way forward, as it has many more advantages and gives more flexibility. That is also what we are using in DaaS, failover is not available in DaaS, only swarming is being used there. Swarming is although still under development because this is not yet feature complete. E.g. swarming of services is not yet supported but will be added in 2026.
In any case, also make sure your storage is geo redundant! The easiest option is to go for STaaS and activate geo redundancy. If you go self-managed, it's highly recommended to consult a storage specialist.
